(Senior/MidSenior) Robotics Engineer
Tampere or Helsinki
Company
NestAI is Europe’s fastest-growing physical AI lab. We build open, sovereign, and reliable autonomous systems and AI-enabled command capabilities for real-world operations — environments where reliability isn’t optional.
Our work spans defence, security, and other mission-critical domains where systems must earn trust through performance, not promises. At the core of what we build is an open, modular, and interoperable AI command foundation that integrates data from multiple sources — from UAV sensors and edge devices to situational intelligence platforms — and turns it into decision support and operational capability.
Rooted in Nordic engineering heritage, we focus on openness, reliability, and systems that earn trust through performance. We work with intent, iterate fast, and build technology that protects what matters most.
Role Description
We are looking for a Robotics Engineer (Mid-senior/Senior level) to join our full-time team in Tampere or Helsinki. This role is crucial for integrating cutting-edge AI models into functional, physical robotic platforms through deep, hands-on technical contribution.
This role targets a mid-to-senior level engineer who will be a key hands-on contributor responsible for developing, testing, and integrating critical components within the core autonomy software stack. You will apply your expertise to build and optimize high-performance software and control systems for highly autonomous robotic platforms, working closely with our multidisciplinary teams including AI/ML specialists, embedded engineers, and hardware designers.
Your work will directly shape how intelligent machines perceive, decide, and act in the physical world.
Day-to-Day Reponsibilities
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of the core autonomy software architecture for our robotic platforms.
- Develop, test, and deploy algorithms for object detection, motion planning, and navigation in complex, unstructured environments, based on specified functional and stakeholder requirements.
- Integrate and fuse data from various sensors (Lidar, cameras, IMUs) to build accurate, real-time perception systems.
- Collaborate closely with AI engineers to integrate and optimize deep learning models for real-time inference on edge devices.
- Conduct rigorous hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulations to ensure system reliability and validation.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical challenges, contributing improvements to system stability and performance.
- Apply modern CI/CD, and version control best practices to ensure reliable and scalable deployment of the robotics stack.
- Conduct technical analyses, prototyping, and report results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
We are looking for a highly skilled mid/senior engineer who thrives at the intersection of software, control theory, and physical hardware, capable of driving complex contributions within established project goals.
Required Capabilities
- A Master's degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience developing, deploying, and maintaining software for commercial or research robotic and autonomous systems.
- Subject Matter Expertise in at least one of the following core autonomous domains, with a track record of deep contribution and optimization:
- Positioning: State estimation and sensor fusion (Kalman filters, particle filters)
- Object Detection & Tracking: Deep learning models for real-time perception (e.g., segmentation, 2D/3D detection) and multi-object tracking.
- Planning & Control: Path planning algorithms (e.g., sampling-based, optimization-based), and control loop optimization.
- Advanced proficiency in C++ for performance-critical systems and Python for rapid prototyping and AI integration.
- Experience utilizing Robot Operating System (ROS / ROS 2).
- Significant experience in systems integration, debugging, and troubleshooting complex software on physical robots.
- Experience with version control, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and Linux-based development environments.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Desired Capabilitiess (A Plus)
- A PhD degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with multi-agent swarm path planning algorithms (centralized or decentralized).
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or real-time kernels.
- Familiarity with modern computation or edge environments (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, embedded GPUs) for low-latency inference.
- Background in deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, especially related to computer vision or reinforcement learning.
- Experience with simulation environments (e.g., Gazebo, Unity, or similar physics engines) for testing and data generation.
