Data engineer
Tampere or Helsinki
Company
NestAI is Europe’s fastest-growing physical AI lab. We build open, sovereign, and reliable autonomous systems and AI-enabled command capabilities for real-world operations — environments where reliability isn’t optional.
Our work spans defence, security, and other mission-critical domains where systems must earn trust through performance, not promises. At the core of what we build is an open, modular, and interoperable AI command foundation that integrates data from multiple sources — from UAV sensors and edge devices to situational intelligence platforms — and turns it into decision support and operational capability.
Rooted in Nordic engineering heritage, we focus on openness, reliability, and systems that earn trust through performance. We work with intent, iterate fast, and build technology that protects what matters most.
Role Description
We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team full-time in Tampere or Helsinki.
In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure that powers NestAI’s physical AI systems. You’ll work closely with AI researchers, software engineers, and product teams to ensure that data from real-world systems is collected, processed, and made accessible for machine learning and analytics. Your work will enable scalable, reliable data pipelines — from embedded devices to cloud storage — forming the backbone of our AI development.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines and ETL processes across embedded, cloud, and AI systems.
- Building robust data storage and retrieval architectures to support model training, analytics, and experimentation.
- Developing tools and services for data collection, preprocessing, and labeling from diverse sources (sensors, logs, cloud).
- Ensuring data quality, consistency, and integrity across multiple environments and stages of the pipeline.
- Collaborating with ML engineers and researchers to optimize data flow for model development and evaluation.
- Implementing monitoring, testing, and automation for continuous data delivery and observability.
- Supporting deployment and maintenance of data infrastructure in production environments (cloud or hybrid).
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years experience in data engineering and pipeline development using tools such as Airflow, dbt, or Kafka.
- Proficiency in Python (and optionally SQL, Bash, or similar languages for automation).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) and data storage systems (e.g., BigQuery, S3, PostgreSQL, Parquet).
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
- Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and versioned datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to reliability and scalability.
- Experience with machine learning data workflows, edge data ingestion, or real-time streaming is a strong plus.
- Understanding of data security and compliance best practices is an advantage.
Why join NestAI
At NestAI, you’ll build meaningful, real-world technology as part of a world-class team of engineers, scientists, and experienced professionals. You’ll work on systems where reliability genuinely matters, contribute to Europe’s security and resilience, and solve problems that demand depth, trust, and craftsmanship.
If you want to build with purpose — and with leading experts in the field — you’ve come to the right place.
